I used this week to read over and edit my unit assessments and prepare the final copies for submission. I also spent time preparing for the final lecture. With all my assessments now completed I felt a lot better and no more pressure.
On a whole, I have found the unit very interesting. Although I was unable to focus and concentrate throughout the unit, I believe I was still able to achieve the objectives I set out for myself from the beginning of the unit. I have both theoretical and practical understanding of various retail marketing strategies. The lectures which involved the guest speakers were also very interesting because they shed more light on the practicality of the module.
Week 13
This week my focus was on completing the final assessment.
I found the research and campaign workshop very interesting and practical.
By the end of the week I completed the assessment on the retail marketing project and marketing campaign.

Week 12
During this week I completed my coursework on EPoS systems and the A3 Boards. My focus now turned to completing the work on preparing a marketing plan.
I also read through my lecture notes and other relevant material in preparation for the tutorials in the next lecture.
I found the tutorials very interesting and informative. I was able to concentrate through out the lecture. By the end of the week I felt very fulfilled and enthusiastic about continuing with my course works.

Week 11
As with week ten, this week was about completing my course works. I also continued to gather information to be used to prepare the A3 Boards.
Furthermore, I read up on relationship marketing in retail and also completed the homework from week ten, in preparation for the next lecture.
By the end of the week I was feeling quite satisfied with my progress so far and was now coping quite well under stress.

Week 10
During this week was more focused on completing the coursework on EPoS systems can assist in the development and refinement of retail marketing strategy. I gathered relevant literature and read up on the internet for more information on EPoS systems. I also produced a rough sketch of coursework for both the essays on the marketing plan and EPoS systems. Initially I found this challenging because I had not produced the draft plan. But once this was in place I was able to continue with the work with much ease.
I also read up on innovative retail marketing strategies and also completed the homework form the previous lecture for the presentation.
By the end of the week, I felt quite confident, motivated and enthusiastic. I was still experiencing a lot of pressure but my new strategy was working so I was able to deal with the pressure. I also had a draft for all my final assessments and was making good progress towards completing them.

Week 9
I used most of this week to continue with working on my final assessment. I focus on identifying, researching and gathering information about the case studies I planned to use in my work. I also started working on the design of the A3 boards to be presented with the assessment.
I was also able to prepare in advance for the lecture as well as carry out research on the ethical policies of my chosen retailer.
This week I also felt a lot of pressure as the deadline for submission was fast approaching. However I had learned and was implementing the techniques on how to deal with such pressure. I also felt a lot more confident and enthusiastic this week.

Week 8
Earlier in the week I visited the student welfare office for some advice on coping with course pressure. I found the advice very useful and decided to redraw a study time table.
Before the lecture I was able to complete the homework for the previous lecture. I also read up on the topic for the lecture before coming into class.
Although I still wasn’t able to concentrate fully, it was better than the previous weeks because I had prepared for the lecture before hand. I also found the lecture more interesting and interactive because of the discussions on pricing promotions and adverts.
By the end of the week I felt that I was overcoming the stress and starting to get back in track. I also started to read the previous lecture notes to keep abreast with everything that had been covered so far.

Week 7
This week I still failed to complete my assignments or read in advance for the lecture. I quickly went over my marketing campaign and research plans to discuss with the lecturer. Looking back at this, I feel my marketing campaign and research plans were very inadequate and lacking in substance.
However, I was a bit more focused this week than I was in week six and did enjoy the lecture by the guest speaker. I also managed to discuss get through the discussions about the marketing campaign and research plans.
I felt a lot of pressure both from the unit and the other units I was taking and this was causing me to lose my concentration.
By the end of the week I felt that I had achieved nothing and this was very frustrating. I started to do some reflection on why my enthusiasm, concentration and performance were rapidly slowing down and came to the decision to consult the student welfare office for some advice on handling pressure and stress.

Week 6
I felt even more distracted this week. I failed to read up in preparation for the lecture and also didn’t complete the homework given for the next lecture.
During the lecture I felt a little tired and sleepy and totally lost concentration. I was unable to follow up or understand the lecture and often felt quite bored.
By the end of the end I felt I had lost my commitment and enthusiasm for the course. I continued to feel the unit was not as difficult as I had originally imagined and that I could get back on it very quickly. I didn’t feel like or have the time to look over the lecture notes after the lecture. I also missed an informal discussion session with some of my course mates.

Week 5
I began to feel more distracted this week and failed to carryout any research on the topic to be treated during the lecture. However I was able to produce a customer profile for my chosen retailer.
I managed to understand everything that was treated in the lecture.
Although the week started off a little poorly I was much unprepared for the lecture, I managed to make it through and still felt quite accomplished.

Week 4
With all my assignments done and after reading some previous literature before the lecture I felt more confident for the lecture. I also enjoyed the session with the guest speaker and learned quite a lot from the lecture.
I felt such sessions were quite important as it provided an opportunity to put into perspective the practical literature covered.
By the end of the lecture I began to feel the course was much easier than I had originally anticipated.

Week 3
So far I felt the unit was going according to plan and I felt quite eager and excited about the lectures. I had also been able, so far, to complete all my take-home tasks in time and also read up some information about the issues to be covered in the next lecture.
Again I felt quite satisfied and accomplished by the end of the lecture. I also enjoyed a debate with some of my course mates on the issues treated in the lecture.
However I felt a little worried about how I will make contact with a fashion branch manager at T.M. Lewin. Nevertheless I manage to overcome my fear and contact a manager at a local T.M Lewin branch. We had quite a pleasant discussion and he provided me with some practical knowledge of how in store decision collected from their sales system is used to make merchandising decisions. But he is unable to provide me with more detailed information as much of the information is rather used at the head office for decision making.

Week 2
By this week I had made my choice of organisation to be used for the marketing campaign research (T.M. Lewin). I also read some text books to find out more information about the topics to be treated in lecture. I prepared a list questions before the lecture, but was very satisfied because the lecturer fully covered all the areas where I had concerns. This improved my confidence and interest in the course. By the end of lecture I had excellent understanding of the key concepts covered.
Also in Week 2 I realised I did not have a more concrete timetable for studies and most of my studying will be on an ad hoc basis. This prompted me to create a concrete timetable. I also realised I had not incorporated any team work activities with my unit mates into my timetable. These are quite important so that we can argue on and discuss various issues relevant to the unit. I adjusted my unit work timetable to incorporate team work and discussion times with my unit mates.
On a whole, this week I still felt very confident and interested in the course. So far I have found it very interesting and I have fully enjoyed the take home tasks that were given. I felt quite excited about researching on and understanding the EPoS system and how it is used for planning in the retail sector.
I planned to visit a retail shop to observe how the EPoS system operates in practice, after reading theoretical literature about this. This will help me put into perspective the theoretical literature.

Week 1
Before the lecture I was a little nervous I didn’t know exactly what to expect in the unit. After the lecturer introduced the unit and went through the work plan for the 15 weeks and outcomes, I felt more confident and interested in the unit. I realised it was challenging but given the study plans I already had in place I felt I will be able to succeed in the unit.
My work plan for the week was to do some research on the various retail companies so that I am able to make the best choice for the retailer to be used for my marketing campaign. I initially started by choosing between the various industries in the retail sector (groceries, textile, entertainment, electronics), before looking at the various companies operating the chosen sector.
With the amount of determination and confidence I have built after lecture 1, I am much more eager to attend the next lecture.

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
The main focus of the course is to provide me and other students with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the techniques currently used by retailers for marketing their products and services. This will involve various pricing strategies and how the methods used to understand consumer behaviour are applied and the information obtained used to develop an appropriate retail marketing strategy.
By the end of the unit, I expect to have acquired both theoretical and practical knowledge on using various techniques to understand, designing and implement an appropriate retail marketing strategy, as well as understanding changing consumer behaviour patterns and adapting the marketing strategy in response to the changes. Furthermore, I expect to have developed and be able to demonstrate excellent understanding and application of the new ways that have been used in marketing recently and also be able to think creatively in assessing the pros and cons of these techniques.
The purpose of this journal is to set out the strategy I implemented in achieving the objectives I set for myself at the beginning of the unit. I will also discuss the challenges and difficulties I faced and how I overcame them and include an overall self assessment of my performance in the unit. Furthermore, I will discuss my thoughts and feelings and how I dealt with negative behaviour and how I plan to avoid this in the future.
The structure of the journal will be according to the weeks as through this I will be able to clearly describe my progress through the unit.
At the beginning of the unit I set out a study plan for myself. This involved both carrying out research and reading a lot of the study material before each lecture. This was to enable me fully understand the areas where I may experience difficulties so I can concentrate more during lectures. I also planned to prepare a list of relevant questions, which I will box-tick if I feel I have understood the area as the lecture went on. If at the end of the lecture or a topic there were still some questions not yet ticked I would ask these to the lecturer for further clarification. I also planned to go through the lecture notes for each day after the lecture so I could fully understand the area or topic.
In order to compliment my theoretical work with some practical knowledge, I planned to visit some retail organisations for observations, so I could understand first hand how the theories were being implemented as well as understand the weaknesses in the system.
